“The fundamental basis of the community is agriculture”

- ‘Abdu’l-Bahá

Mission

To contribute to environmental justice and community building through sustainable urban agriculture in Southeast Grand Rapids.

Vision

  1. Promote Food Access

We seek to increase neighborhood participation in sustainable agriculture and landscaping practices and the cultivation of ecologically-grown produce, for consumption and sale.

  2. Nurture Environmental Education and Action

Our gardens also serve as learning spaces to engage community members in education on sustainable agricultural practices. We draw community members into conversations around the environment, nutrition, and collective action.

  3. Contribute to Local Economy

We will begin with a small cohort of individuals from the neighborhood in paid opportunities to grow, market, and distribute food.

  4. Beautify Green Space

Employees, interns, and volunteers will also be engaged in beautifying landscapes through regular maintenance, garden design, and the propagation of perennial flowers.
